What is an RSS reader?
What if you could take all your favorite newsletters, ditch the data collection, and curate your own newspaper? It could include independent journalists, bloggers, mainstream media, worker-owned media collectives, and just about anyone else who publishes online. Even podcast episodes, videos from your favorite YouTube channels, and online forum posts could slot in, too. Only the stuff you want to see, all in one place, ready to read at your convenience. No email notifications interrupting your peace (unless you want them), no pressure to read articles immediately. Wouldn’t that be nice?
RSS feeds have been around since forever, but they continue to provide a very underused alternative to the algorithm-controlled narratives and infinite data harvesting of corporate social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Substack, and all the rest.
I suggest you ditch them ASAP. Your life will thank you for it.
Many, if not most, websites publish an RSS feed. Whereas you can only follow a Twitter user on Twitter or a Substack writer in the Substack app, you can follow any website with an RSS feed in a feed reader. When you open it, all your reading is neatly waiting for you in one place, like a morning newspaper. And RSS is more of a one-way street from a privacy perspective, pushing writing out to you with less of your data flowing back to the publisher.

As far as which RSS reader app to use?
There's a #Firefox addon that fills out those "can we please track you forever?" cookie popups. I used it for years and loved it, but I lost it in a reinstall, and I cannot for the life of me remember what it's called.
it shows up as a dark blue box with light blue highlighting. If anyone knows what it is, please tell me. I miss it dearly.

I have a bunch of 2.5" internal SATA drives (in good condition) that I can place in caddies turning them into USB3 external drives:
Q. Would using them over USB3.x as boot devices for various distros be 1) Possible? 2) Much different in terms of speed than a good MicroSD like the RPi official card? I'm not fussed about boot speed itself, but working speed post-boot.
I'd be using a Pi5, and not for demanding applications.

I've gotten good progress with #piefed, #mastodon, and #pixelfed. I'm still trying to get #hcaptcha set up and working. I did accomplish correctly working out how I should mount volumes for piefed so that imports would work correctly (unexpected directory). I also fixed an issue with nginx metrics exports and #cilium network policies, so now I have some nice new dashboards. I also spoke with a friend and #nomad who does #graphicdesign about a new mascot!
We're getting close, there's still more things that I want to finalize before going live, but some of the big ones are:
