If you plan to run your own #mastodon #selfhosting instance like I did a week ago, here is one interesting data I’ve discovered.
My new, single-user instance, with 70/250 contacts, receiving around 1200 posts per day, generated in one week some 16GB of media cache.
If you are on a small 40GB VPS server like me, you should limit that cache to only 2/3 days, or you will be out of storage in two weeks.
Also, clear that cache before you do a #yunohost backup or VPS snapshot.

I usually use @IceCubesApp but since I’m not sure if that app is going to be moving forward due to the developer’s new job, I want to understand my options. I haven’t used this app much recently, so I thought it might be a good place to start testing.

Journée gratifiante pour l'instant : j'ai contribué à faire flinguer le compte d'un facho cherchant à faire le troll sur Mastodon, ici, chez nous.
Ben, non, mon coco (oui, comme dans "communiste" : j'aime, c'est tout pour toi, slurp !), ici t'étais pas chez ton Elon-pue-du-Musk, ni chez ta tête de noeud (ou de merlan frit, c'est selon) sauce Meta puis Maga. Ici on a des admins vivants et réactifs, pas des robots pour dire "on fait" et ne rien faire. Lres cons dans ton genre c'est par là, sous la loupiote verte toujours allumée dans le noir avec "Exit" en blanc. Bon vent et bonjours chez vous.
C'est le 2e en quelques jours et ce n'est plus pour du phishing. Mastodon doit commencer à réveiller leur urticaire au point de pousser les plus riches à nous envoyer les plus pauvres (d'esprit surtout) pour tenter de foutre leur zone dans notre désordre à nous, celui qui est, de très loin, le plus pacifque des deux.
Donc attaque prévue ou en cours, si vous en voyez un se pointer avec ses grosses Rangers et prétextes F-Haine bien relous, n'hésitez pas : tirez tout de suite, vous perdrez moins de temps, signalez le 'machin', tir à vue. On a besoin de cette réaction de vous pour nous garder à tous un fediverse non pollué et tout le monde sait que, de ces cons, il y en aura tout le temps tentant (cf. le Gérard Lambert de Renaud) le coup pour tester si nos défenses faiblissent.
=> N'hésitez pas : vérifiez le compte du troll, signalez-le quand vous êtes sûr.e. et passez le mot : c'est de l'auto-défense collective, de la démocratie directe, l'arme la plus efficace qui soit après la bombe atomique (et encore). Ils la détestent encore plus que LFI parce que, ça; ça ne se commande pas "comme ça", snap !
et mort aux cons !

A comedian who pretends to be a penguin by performing mostly naked is trying to get on television.
That's not actually a joke - Garry Starr, the starring character in comedy show Classic Penguins, really is making a bid for the small screen.
The show picked up a string of awards including most outstanding at the 2025 Melbourne International Comedy Festival and a recent run on London's west end sold out.
It's now just a few nights into a four-week return run at the Malthouse, for Melbourne's 2026 comedy festival.
The idea behind Classic Penguins is that Starr performs all of the Penguin Classic novels in an hour, in order to save books from extinction.
He does it dressed as a penguin, or rather, undressed. Starr performs in flippers and a tuxedo jacket, but no pants - because penguins don't wear pants.
Garry Starr is the alter ego of performer Damien Warren-Smith, who studied under the late clown guru Philippe Gaulier.
Warren-Smith's team pitched a comedy series to streaming and broadcast networks earlier in March, and while he is excited about one - or possibly even three - television projects in development, his heart is in live performance.
"I love live work because there's nothing standing between me and the audience but television is a whole different beast," he says...
