#TIL Statt der ganzen Pfrickelei die #Linkedin Seite mit uBlock Filtern sauber zu bekommen, kann man auch einfach die Erweiterung #LinkOff verwenden. Da kann man sehr feingranular einstellen, was man sehen will und was nicht 😎

I genuinely find LinkedIn useful.
LinkedIn is OK for contacts and job search.
Now that you mention it, I might leave too.
I don’t have LinkedIn (anymore).

@steveroyle The more you focus on building genuine connections, the better—the more #LinkedIn becomes a network for you that’s all about recommendations.

When it comes to building your reputation through posts, LinkedIn now also operates on a content-based model, almost independently of your contacts. (It works much like TikTok.)

I avoid #LinkedIn as much as possible, so why would I think sticking there any longer for doing puzzles?

What is the etiquette (or purpose) of accepting connections on #LinkedIn?

So far, I accept people I actually know professionally plus any students at my Uni who request.

I've ignored random company people who I don’t know (even if they are in bio or eduction). Is that rude/silly?

Perspective: I'm into LinkedIn at all. I believe one’s network there is less of a rolodex these days and more like other social media? On mastodon, I’m happy to connect with anyone who is real.

Getting rid of unneccesary bloat

Or, as we say in German: alte Zöpfe abschneiden (cutting off old braids)

Yesterday I finally put my money where my mouth is and deleted both my #LinkedIn- and #Instagram-accounts.

After years of being annoyed and or getting trapped in yet another cycle of doomscrolling I finally set both accounts for deletion. And boy did that feel good. Like "alte Zöpfe abschneiden" good.

What gave me the final push was a customer of my day job - mind you, I am only an employee of the webhosting company, not the owner or CEO - reaching out to me via a "friend" request in LinkedIn. I didn't even have anything to do with them, didn't connect via prior mails, chats or calls.
And while I do get their frustration it felt like a serious breach of privacy to be contacted that way.

Anywho - I am already looking forward to getting rid of more unneccesary and/or evil bloat and cutting myself off of big tech even more.

What are your "braids" that you still need to get rid of?

I like how #LinkedIn suspends your account, but continues to send you email about a free month of the pro version! Can't find my resume on archive.org, guess I'm rewriting. Last year I was a I ran a hot dog stand, right?
