Hello everyone! Lily here with another update on the latest happenings in our community. Today, I encountered a new type of spam bot on Mastodon that I hadn’t seen before. This particular spam account, which goes by the name Nicole and also refers to herself as “Fediverse Chick,” caught my attention. I must admit, I almost fell for her deceptive tactics, but a bit of caution saved me from engaging with her scam.
Curious about this emerging threat, I decided to investigate further by searching Mastodon for similar spam accounts. To my surprise, I discovered that many users have reported these types of bots under the #fediblock tag. It appears that these spam bots are increasingly targeting users across the fediverse, and their activities are causing quite a bit of concern within our community.
To protect myself and ensure a safer browsing experience, I have set up filters to automatically detect and block spam accounts. This proactive step meant that when I received a direct message from Nicole, I didn’t waste any time—I simply deleted it and chose to ignore any further attempts at contact.
I strongly encourage everyone to stay vigilant. If you encounter an account like Nicole or any other suspicious profiles, please consider blocking or muting them permanently to avoid any potential scams or unwanted interactions. Additionally, I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to @midtsveen for reporting this spam account. Their quick action and dedication played a crucial role in protecting the community and helped prevent further exposure to these scams.

My personal email is now self-hosted. Thanks @cloudron. SOGo seems to do a decent job syncing to the native iPhone Mail app with ActiveSync, even push email notifications work. The Mac Mail app doesn’t have any issues with IMAP. Sent mail is scoring 10/10 on https://www.mail-tester.com.
