Benutzt hier jemand ein selbstgehostetes wördpress mit dem diesein alone? Dann holt auch mal schnell die neue versjon, da ist eine kleine sicherheitsschwankung drin und das wird gerade massenhaft und automatisiert angegriffen. Da kann jeder dahergelaufene hansel aus dem internetz nach herzenslust dateien hochladen. Also auch PHP-skripten, die dann mit den rechten des websörvers ausgeführt werden können. Zum beispiel, um eure datenbank — die wp-config.php muss ja mit den rechten des websörvers lesbar sein, sonst geht gar nix, und da stehen die zugangsdaten drin — mit spämm und schadsoftwäjhr zu fluten, die dann als eure texte und eure daunlohds erscheinen. Oder um ein benutzerkonto mit adminrechten anzulegen. Oder um kleine phishing- und betrugsseiten im stil anderer webseits auf eurem sörver abzulegen, die dann in spämms verlinkt werden. Oder, oder, oder. Den kriminellen wird schon eine nutzungsform einfallen, die euch nicht gefällt und zum ziel polizeilicher ermittlungen macht, und die datenbank nehmen die cräcker sowieso mit, man weiß ja nie…

Also holt euch schnell die aktualisierte versjon! Die entwickler sagen, dass das problem gefixt sei. Und wenns euch schon erwischt haben sollte, spielt mal eine datensicherung von vor dem angriff zurück. Und wenn ihr keine habt… ach! Dann fangt ihr halt von vorne an.

Ancient Stone Tablets is a fascinating experience, it's a truncated version of A Link to the Past, spread out across 4 chapters, released on a weekly basis.

Each week has a time limit, of about 50 minutes or so, during that time, things will happen based on that timer. You will gain infinite bombs, or your boomerang will be more powerful, or you'll gain sword beams for a limited time.

Certain NPCs only become available after an amount of time has passed and it is just such a curiousity.

It's not as challenging as A Link to the Past, but also some puzzles require things that aren't done that much in the original game.

If you enjoy A Link to the Past, I think this is probably worth checking out. It's a fun little experience!

What my AI fiction writing experiment taught me about my creative process

In my last post, I wrote about my experiment using AI to write fiction.

The whole exercise was born out of curiosity and frustration. The story, Forever, at last, was just one of many that I could not finish, but it refused to leave me, literally haunting me when I try to sleep.

What I discovered

This experiment has made me realise a few things about my creative writing process:

Reading a story generated by AI, even it I had written the story beats and dialogue, was unsatisfying to read.

I enjoy writing a large part of my fiction, like 90%. Taking that away from me would make writing fiction a truly passion-less and boring exercise.

I am far too territorial with my writing to use AI copy wholesale.

I have a Hemmingway-ish style of writing, thin on description, minimalist and economical. And there’s nothing wrong with that. (I ended up cutting away a lot of the content AI generated.)

Most of the enjoyment I have when writing fiction comes from writing the dialogue. In fact, I think I am more of a scriptwriter by nature than a prose writer.

Understanding my process

I have come to the conclusion based on my experiment with fiction is that I need to write the dialogue (which I enjoy), detailed storybeats with a light description of the scene (which I don’t enjoy) before even using AI.

I will then dialogue with AI to find ways to improve my description which I am weak at.

I seem to love chatting with the AI on how I can improve the existing descriptions or the descriptions it generated. The act of learning is very enjoyable to me.

I do not judge anyone who wants to generate first drafts and rewrite them – some people are satisfied with just rewriting, but I realize I want a lot more ownership, and that I need to vividly visualise the scene and create the dialogue. That is the only way I can use AI without sacrificing my enjoyment of writing fiction.

However, I don’t mind asking AI for help in improving my sparse descriptions of settings.

Understanding what parts of the writing process I like or don’t like

What I love:

• Imagining and visualising the scenes vividly in my head, and then writing the storybeats
• Writing dialogue (I’m especially territorial about this!)
• Creating character arcs (This is my second most territorial thing)
• Creating the entire plot
• Learning how to improve my fiction prose writing

What I don’t enjoy:

• Writing detailed outlines
• Writing descriptions of characters, settings and action scenes (only because I take too long thinking how to do them. I have a feeling once I master this, I’d enjoy it too.)
• Creating story bibles
• Proofreading
• General admin work related to creating the ebook and uploading it to websites
• Marketing the damn book

To me, writing fiction is all about the craft – writing sentences that convey emotion, story flow, character arcs …

I have very little interest in marketing the book or even distributing it for others to read. I have a very interesting approach to my creations. Once I create a novel or piece a fiction, I tend to forget about them and move on to the next. I don’t check up on them, read the reviews, or see how they perform. To me, the piece of art is done, and it’s time to create another.

So, it’s no wonder that I find the latter half of the process incredibly tedious and unfun.

Outsourcing what you don’t enjoy

Here’s what I tell authors: Identify your pain points — the parts of the process that are most annoying and aggravating. Then let AI handle the majority of the work in those areas. – SJ Pajonas, “The Joy Factor: How to Use AI Without Losing What You Love About Writing”

“AI-positive” indie writer SJ Pajonas wrote in her Substack recently that we need to find the parts of our writing process that we loved, and the parts where we didn’t. The parts that we don’t, we can outsource to AI.

It was an intriguing idea. So, I’ll be exploring this idea in the next post.

July 22 (#Reuters) - #Russians will face fines if they search online for "extremist" content under a new law that tightens censorship and could have sweeping ramifications for digital privacy and the fate of #WhatsApp in the country.
The legislation, approved on Tuesday by parliament's lower house, the State #Duma, has drawn criticism from some pro-government figures, as well as opposition activists. Opponents say the fines it prescribes, of up to 5,000 roubles ($63.82), could open the door to tougher charges and penalties.

The Ministry of Justice's list of extremist materials stretches to more than 500 pages. Entities banned in Russia for carrying out "extremist activities" include late Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny's Anti-Corruption Fund, the "international #LGBT movement" and U.S. tech giant Meta Platforms (META.O)

On Friday, lawmakers who regulate the IT sector said Meta-owned WhatsApp should prepare to leave the Russian market as it was likely to be added to a list of restricted software.

The new legislation targets people who knowingly search for extremist materials online, including through virtual private networks (VPN) that millions of people across Russia use to bypass censorship and access banned content.
"This bill concerns a very narrow group of people, who look for extremist content because they themselves are already one step away from extremism," Sergei #Boyarsky, head of the Duma's information technology committee, told Duma TV.

ONLINE SELF-CENSORSHIP
Digital Development Minister Maksut Shadaev said law enforcement would have to prove that users intended to view extremist materials and that merely accessing platforms would not be penalised.
It was not immediately clear how the authorities would determine intent in an online search. The lack of clarity has left many feeling uneasy.
Yekaterina Mizulina, head of Russia's League for a Safe Internet, a body founded with the authorities' support, criticised the law's "vague wording" and warned the law could spark a wave of fraud, blackmail and extortion

"For now, the law applies only to the search for extremist materials, but there is no guarantee," Mizulina wrote on #Telegram. "The list could be expanded in a couple of days."
Sarkis Darbinyan, founder of digital rights group Roskomsvoboda, said he expected people to start unsubscribing from certain channels and deleting apps.
"I think this is one of the main tasks that has been set: to create fear, to create such uncertainty so as to increase the level of self-#censorship among the Russian internet audience," Darbinyan told Reuters.
Shadaev told the Duma that fines on the Russian population were preferable to banning platforms like WhatsApp and #Google in Russia.
Moscow has long sought to establish what it calls digital sovereignty by promoting home-grown services, including a new state-backed messaging app, MAX, but many people across Russia still rely on foreign platforms.
