It's sad to see that even in general communities, most of the content is still tech-heavy. I once invited a non-tech friend to try #Lemmy -- they left after a day, saying, "It just feels like a space for programmers and sysadmins."
If even general communities default to dev memes, Linux jokes, or IT rants, how are we supposed to appeal to normal people?
I once commented on this, and got downvoted and hand-waved with "well this still counts as general/random." That's exactly the problem. If your idea of “random” is still tech-adjacent, you’re just making the platform a nerd clubhouse with a bigger couch. I hope some of y’all have real-life friends outside tech and can reflect on why they’d bounce hard from the current #Fediverse vibe.

#copyparty takes time to understand, and seems quirky at first. But once I gradually get a sense of what all the features are, it's deeply sensible.
I'm loving the markdown editor, that lets me create a README.md file in a folder (right from the web browser where I'm browsing files and folders), then it shows the rendered contents when browsing that folder, again from a web browser (similar to how a README.md works at Github). A "killer feature" for sure.
SMB or FTP browsing of course has no such (cross-platform) "Markdown-README-goodness" feature.
Thanks to this, I now can have a Heimdall button set up to take any of my devices into a pre-determined shared folder, where a rendered README awaits. So very awesome! 😍

I wrote a software management system for IT administrators that can be used to input software to the website and use an API call from a client workstation to check if the software is the latest or not, and if an upgrade is needed, it can either download from the main website, or from a file repo local to your network.
Deciding if or when I make this a public application as well and shareable to the other IT admins out there.
Still working on the client side, but there base of the API is great! Simple Django and Python application on the server side, and currently Powershell on the client side. There isn't a reason it would not support a Linux style environment as well.

Выстрел с монитора
Всё началось как обычный вечер — пицца остывала на подлокотнике, клавиши мыши слегка липли от энергетика, а в наушниках шептал суровый саундтрек новой инди-RPG: Hollow Echo. Илья был из тех, кто не просто проходил игры — он в них жил, дышал, мечтал. Если в игре был тайник — он его находил. Если пасхалка — он знал ещё три, которых не знал никто.
А ещё у него был талант: видеть логические швы мира, мельчайшие намёки на то, что разработчики хотели спрятать. Он был неофициальным лидером форума, где вскрывали все секреты, и именно он первым выложил теорию про секретный уровень.

Посреди зала стоял Босс.
Без имени. Без шкалы ХП. Просто... Он.

Илья отпрянул. Сердце дрогнуло, но он уже не мог оторваться.

Картинка на мониторе дрогнула, и изображение стало... глубже. Не плоским, а словно втягивающим. Босс шагнул вперёд. Пиксели вокруг него вибрировали.
— Смотри внимательно, — сказал он.
И выстрелил.
Прямо из экрана. Без вспышки, без пули. Просто точка света, как если бы в матрице зажёгся один единственный пиксель... но не на мониторе — внутри Ильи. В сердце.
Он откинулся в кресле. Тихо. Почти мирно. На лице было выражение удивления, как у ребёнка, которому впервые показали, что у фокуса есть подвох.
Утром его нашли с открытыми глазами, неподвижного. Монитор всё ещё был включён. Только вот Hollow Echo не запускалась: "файлы повреждены". Steam писал, что игра больше не существует.
