I finally solved a storage issue on #mastodon servers, which use self hosted S3 buckets: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/18774#issuecomment-4563829719
@fairkom 's instance fairmove.net has grown to 4.4TB of bucket size and now was shrinking to 260 GB after applying a retention rule directly on the minio server with an expiration time of 30 days. As we have plenty of bucket space, I extended that again to 180 days for a better scrolling experience.

Die registrieren sich jetzt und versuchen an unserer moderierten Registrierung vorbei zu kommen (noch erkenne ich sie, es wird aber immer aufwendiger). Ich fange hier ab, was geht. Aber ich wette, dass Server mit offener Registrierungen wie Mastodon.social gerade überschwemmt werden mit solchen Fake-Accounts, die erstmal still bleiben bis Tag X. #FediAdmin

In an attempt to be sneaky and overcome restrictions, these people post child body parts in segments.
For example, one post will include a child's belly, and another their feet, hands, or legs, etc. Together, they make for an inappropriate viewing of someone underage.
Thankfully, we have not seen this here on our site, but I have reported it to Mastodon. Keep an eye out for their disgusting, sneaky behavior.

(💜 Marielle) Reminder for fedi admins who may have missed the memo: The Mastodon (and forks), Misskey (and forks), IceShrimp, Wafrn, Fedify, and Hollo development teams issued critical security releases for their software between 2026-05-20 and 2026-05-22.
I have gathared releases for well-known software and forks and put them in the post this one is quoting. If you cannot find your software, please check its repository; if no release exists, please check with the development team of your software if your software is vulnerable, and if it is, please ask if you need to your instance down until it can be patched. The vulnerability in question affects ActivityPub software that supports Linked-Data Signatures, and vulnerable instances are urged to shut down until they and their software can be patched.

20 administrators just received a polite, discreet private reminder that their copy of Mastodon or Mastodon+Glitch (since this affects both) should be upgraded.
You should be using Mastodon 4.5.10 or Mastodon+Glitch 4.5.10.
If you are using a nightly build, you should be using at minimum either 4.6.0-nightly.2026-05-21-security or 4.6.0-alpha.8+glitch.
Previous releases had serious security flaws that even “script kiddies” could exploit. Upgrade advised.

The Speakeasy is looking into publishing a dynamic, curated version of our blocklist for public use. In the meantime, we invite you to use our static lists. We hope they'll be useful to small instances who may not have the time to chase down every icky instance.
Primary Blocklist (needs refreshing) - Verified list of instances that violate the rules of the Speakeasy. Diotima has "add the new defedded instances" on her to-do list. If there's a way to share these dynamically, we'd love to hear.
US Government Domain List - A list of United States domains formatted for import. This list will NOT prevent the US govt from seeing your instance. It is mostly a protest list, though we did want to defed them pre-emptively in case they decided to propaganda dump on the fedi.
